Secure Your Rollator - Maintenance Tips

Like any piece of equipment that has moving parts, not to mention those that are imperative for your safety, walker style rollators require an active maintenance schedule. The wheels for instance can either be made of a hard plastic wheel wrapped in a molded piece of rubber or come with wheels similar to a bicycle or car that have an inflatable tube within a durable rubber tire. If the rollator you own happens to be the latter, than the occassional examination & fill will keep your wheels rolling for a long time. Below are some maintenance tips to ensure you get the best possible return on your rollator investment:

Overuse Injuries May Rise When Kids Specialize in One Sport

TUESDAY, Oct. 29 (HealthDay News) -- Children and teens who spend twice as much time playing organized sports -- especially a single sport -- than they do in free play are more likely to be injured, according to new research. "These injuries are purely from the amount of exposure without sufficient rest periods," said lead study author Dr. Neeru Jayanthi. "They're performing at adult levels in a child's body -- in a young, developing body. The constant use of the same parts of the body puts the same stress on the same part of the body over and over again. "We looked at how much organized sports kids were playing compared to how much they played for fun," added Jayanthi, medical director of primary-care sports medicine at Loyola University Health System, in Chicago. "When that ratio got above 1.9 to 1 [favoring organized sports], the risk of injury went up."

Coffee Might Lower Risk of Liver Cancer

THURSDAY, Oct. 24 (HealthDay News) -- Drinking coffee might reduce your risk of liver cancer, a new review suggests. Researchers analyzed the findings of 16 studies that were published between 1996 and 2012 and included a total of nearly 3,200 patients. The researchers said that drinking coffee may reduce the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma, the most common type of liver cancer, by about 40 percent. Some of the data also suggests that drinking three cups of coffee a day reduces liver cancer risk by more than 50 percent, according to the findings, which were published in the journal Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
